Copper sulfate; Copper sulphate; Copper(II) sulfate; Cupric sulfate; Blue vitriol; Bluestone; Cupric sulphate pentahydrate; Chalcanthite (mineral form)
Copper sulphate pentahydrate is a bright blue, crystalline salt widely used as a fungicide, algicide, micronutrient, and reagent. It dissolves readily in water to release copper(II) ions, making it effective in agriculture for correcting copper deficiencies and controlling fungal diseases. It is also used in aquaculture to manage algae and certain parasites.
Industrial sectors rely on this compound for electroplating, metal surface treatment, dyeing processes, catalyst preparation, and analytical chemistry. Its strong oxidizing tendency and predictable copper content make it useful in etching solutions, printed circuit board manufacture, and various inorganic syntheses.
Grade selection should be based on impurity thresholds and the copper sensitivity of the application, especially for feed, agriculture, and electrochemical processes.
